Traditional plastic can take thousands of years to biodegrade. Microplastics, and plastic pollution are among our biggest environmental threats.

Plastic production is continuously growing

and shows no sign of decreasing.

In 2050 there will be more plastic than fishes in the sea. The 10 most commonly used disposable plastic items are responsible of 43% of marine litter found on beaches and oceans.

Many countries use the so called bio-shoppers made of Oxo Plastic. These shoppers are made of conventional plastic with the addition of substances that make them rapidly breakable into very small pieces in order to mimic biodegradation. However, These micro particles are hardly biodegradable and fragments remain in the environment.

European Union pointed out that these plastics contribute to microplastics pollution of the

marine environment and has toxic effects. Thus began a process of substitution of oxo plastics with bio plastics.

Bioplastics are a large family of different materials. A plastic material is defined as a

bioplastic if it is either biobased or  biodegradable. Our Bioplastics shoppers are biobased and biodegradable. Biobased, means that the material or product is derived from biomass such as corn, sugarcane, or cellulose. Biodegradable means that microorganisms that are available in the environment convert materials into natural substances such as water, carbon dioxide, and compost.

Our products are certified according to the stringetnt EU law with EN 13432 EN 14995 certifications to ensure that the product can be industrially composted.

Testing for certification according to EN 13432 EN 14995 encompasses the following tests:

Chemical, Biodegradability, Disintegration, Practical compostability, and Ecotoxicity.

All tests must be passed for the same

material and the tests are conducted by approved and independent testing laboratories.
